I've been tagged by the lovely and wonderful Mary. She tagged me a while ago and am now finally getting around to playing. This version of tag is a little different in that there are actual questions to answer so here goes!
What were you doing 10 years ago?
Hmm. I believe it was the summer after my Sophmore year in college and I was working at the Maine Mall at a store called "Natural Wonders." It was such a fun job but I didn't quite make as much money as I needed to for my Junior year! Let's just say I ate a lot of Ramen noodles.
Five items on my to-do list:
1. Call the plumber
2. Do the dishes
3. Photograph all my newest work
4. Write my thank you notes
5. Put some listings up on my shop
Snacks I enjoy:
I like to slice an apple into little pieces and put dressing on them in a bowl. I then sprinkle lots of Parmesan and cheddar cheese on top with garlic salt as a last touch. I also love buttery popcorn, cheese and crackers, and banana with whipped cream. I don't snack much anymore though.
What would you do if you were a billionaire?
I would immediately pay off all of our debts and all the debts of my family. I would then buy everyone in my family a new home and furnish it for them. I'd also buy them all new cars. I would buy ourselves a house in our favorite places so that we could stay all over. I would donate lots and lots of money to my favorite charities (National M.S. Society and the American Cancer Society are 2 favorites) and I would give to many homeless families to get them back in the game. For fun I would travel the world and learn all about different cultures. I would also love to take new classes and learn all about the things that interest me. I would also probably volunteer at different places in our area. I'd also probably pay off the debt our church has. And I think it would be amazing to have the means to adopt several children who are trapped in the system and need loving homes. I could go on and on with this question!
Places I would live:
I would love to live in Maine again...particularly Falmouth near the water
Portland, Oregon
San Francisco, CA (if I could afford it!)
Raleigh, NC
Somewhere in coastal Florida just for a little while
Austin, TX
Jobs I have had:
My first was when I was 14...I worked giving pony rides to small children at birthday parties and fairs. I spent most of my time shoveling poop and holding kids on the pony. It sucked and I got paid virtually nothing.
My next job was at Wendy's. My usual task was to put the sandwiches together. It was very stressful since I had to work so fast for hours on end.
Other jobs:
Daycare summer teacher
Retail associate
Waitress
Cleaner
Account Executive
Graphic Designer
Stationer

Tagged again!
Jeff has tagged me...it's hard to know what to write since I've been tagged a few times already. Hmm. Anyway, the game is to write 5 little-known things about myself. The challenge is to think of something interesting that doesn't bore the crap out of my small audience. So, I've decided to just write what comes to mind and it's probably boring so I will apologize now. I will try to make the stories as interesting as possible!
1. Since I was 6 I'd wanted to become an art teacher...up until I realized there were other careers that could be done with art. I then wanted to become an illustrator until I saw the competition out there and also decided I didn't have the attention span to focus on a piece for so long.
2. I love to listen to music from the 40s from an online radio station while I work. I find it is so chipper and tends toward being so innocent and happy. It just makes me happy and changes the atmosphere. I highly recommend trying it for a little while!
3. When I was 15 I had a crush on an older boy in my school. It took me weeks and weeks to get up the courage to ask him to go to the Sadie Hawkins dance with me. I called him on the phone (heart racing, palms sweating, mouth going dry) and I managed to croak out my request to speak with him. We'll call him "Frank" to protect identity. Well, "Frank" said "this is him." And I thought, oh boy, here we go. So I said it was me, and he seemed to light up with recognition and we made small talk. I finally mustered the courage to ask him to the dance and he started chuckling. Then he said "who is this?" And I said "Megan!" and he goes, "Megan SuchandSuch?" (as in, not MY last name) and I said "no!!!!" and he goes, "I think you have the wrong number; I'm 35 years old." He told me his FULL name and it turns out I had called the wrong number, but the guy happened to have the same first name and he knew someone named Megan. His voice even sounded correct. I wanted to die right there. I swear I wanted the Earth to swallow me whole. I hung up and burst into tears and was shaking like a leaf. I believe this has to be one of the most embarrassing things that could happen to a shy 15 year old girl.
4. When I was single and lived alone, I used to go out do dinner or to movies all by myself all the time. Usually, the waitstaff would look at me funny when I said "just me". I'd bring a book to look at and enjoy my meal. I would get glances from people at other tables that seemed to say "what a weird0" but I eventually got used to it. One time I was at the movies at a morning Sunday showing at a small independent theater. I think the movie was "The Pianist." Anyway, it was filled with elderly people from the small town I was in. A little woman was sitting with her husband behind me and she shouts "that girl's date must have stood her up!! the poor girl!". Of course, she meant to whisper, but you know how it is when the hard-of-hearing talk to each other. Her row continued to chat about me as if I couldn't hear them. I turned around and smiled and said "it's ok. I came alone today." And she goes to her husband "such a lovely girl too! That boy is really missing out!!" *sigh*
5. I dream to one day own a Queen Anne Victorian house (not haunted)...one that is fixed up or needs just a little fixing. But has a huge old attic and maybe a secret passage or room. As a kid I was obsessed with trying to discover a secret passage in our house. I guess the dream hasn't died. A favorite show of mine is on HGTV called "If Walls Could Talk." It features houses that have interesting things about them like secret rooms, passages, or hidden notes tucked in the attic. It's fun to listen to all the stories as people discover the history of the house they live in.
I'm not going to tag anyone else, but I hope you enjoyed my little stories. Be well!!
P.S. I eventually DID go to the dance with that boy, but not after he said "no" to me first since he'd wanted to go with someone else. Well, she turned him down so he went with me after all. It was fun and everything, but I learned that we weren't a match and my crush slowly died after that. I'm glad those days are over.

Tagged again!
I've been tagged by Poppy Letterpress. I'm supposed to list 5 things about myself (some random and some weird) and then tag 5 other bloggers. Well, most of the bloggers I read have already been tagged so I'm going to forget that part. I've been tagged a few times in the past year so I need to be creative with what I write...hmmm.
1. Sometimes I find myself in tears over cute commercials with animals in them. Usually when I'm feeling hormonal.
2. I have a terrible potty-mouth. I know it's bad, but I think I could rival Will in "Good Will Hunting" in a swearing contest.
It's a terrible habit. Luckily, I'm ok in the workplace. It's just with family and friends...not that it makes it ok.
3. I taught myself to oil paint when I was 11. I would watch Bob Ross on public television and try to copy what he did. It at least got me started with finding my own style and way of painting.
4. I don't know my cell phone number by heart. I never use it. I turn it on, but it's just for emergencies so only about 3 or 4 people even have the number. When I get asked for my cell number I always feel so embarrassed that I don't know it.
5. When I was around 4 years old or so I got a fishing lure caught in my upper lip. It was all an accident...my older brother who was around 9 at the time was fishing and I was running around behind him pretending I was a superhero. I had a towel tied around my neck and such. Anyhoo, I thought I was far enough back. He flung the pole back to cast it out and it snagged me right in the upper lip. He tugged a bit because he thought it was stuck in the grass; but when he turned around I was just standing there as stunned as could be. My Dad ran over and scooped me up and off to the E.R. we went. I just remember getting a tetanus shot and everyone looking at me with horrified faces. It healed up nicely and I went on to love fishing.
Hope everyone is having a great Wednesday! I am waiting for a bunch of letterpress plates; so I will be pretty busy with printing in the studio next week. I'm looking to now go into the studio and work with some watercolor and ink. I need to get reacquainted with the supplies I used to love and see what turns out. Until Later!
