Illustration Friday Topic: Speed

Now that it's spring, soon the dragonflies will be out and about. Because our house is surrounded by protected forest and wetlands (and also have a lake across the street), we get lots of dragonflies. From little to huge; they dart around the yard. They're fun to watch! Now if only we could get rid of the nightmare mobs of mosquitos we'd be all set.

So many bug picutres with this subject! I don't know how, but over the years I've become a hell of a bugaphobic. Cool picture, btw.

Every year I have a couple of red ones that hover around my pond and dip their tails in it. Some sort of mating thing I think. Great drawing!

If I'm not mistaken, dragonflies eat mosquitoes.

So keep them about.

Hmmm. A recent thought of mine is to buy dragonflies. I hear there is a place in Mass. that "produces" them. I could buy up a bunch and release them on the property and help curb the problem. It's a thought that seems very creepy and sci-fi though. What if they are mutated monsters that decide to eat us all on the street?

i like all the pretty colors. when i was a kid, i used to imagine the red, green and gold dragonflies as tiny flying machines being piloted by 3 miniature airforces.
